Your contribution will provide essential funding for program services, recruiting and educating people and their beloved pets for our many programs.
Transportation costs in NYC and getting our therapy animal teams to and from their volunteer venues is very challenging.
Marketing materials help us to spread the word about the good work we do for our communities.
Please donate so that we may continue to provide this program to more school children, adults, families and veterans in the NYC areas.
BODIE
Therapy dog team, Joan and her rescue Beagle, Bodie, volunteer in the NY Public Library R.E.A.D. program, at a Brooklyn senior day facility and at the VA Hospital in NYC. Joan shares her experience at the VA Hospital: “On our first visit Bodie and I visited veterans in the hospital clubhouse, a gathering place for veterans to come together and relax. Bodie has one eye. A veteran walked in the room with a bandage over his eye and took one look at Bodie and said, ‘He looks just like me.’ At that moment I thought, this is not volunteering, this is heaven.” Rescue Dogs have a 2nd chance at life as a volunteer with their loving owner with New York Therapy Animals.
Murphy
“My dog, Murphy, a Maltipoo, was a breeding dog in a puppy mill for 4 years. When she no longer served their purpose, I found her and she rescued me. We were educated in the New York Therapy Animals program and are now literacy mentors for the R.E.A.D. program in 3 NYC schools and in the New York Public Library. Through Murphy, we are helping children to build self-confidence to learn and love to read. My dog was given a second chance to help people.”
— Margaret, Murphy’s mom
